A lesson to learn and we almost learnt it the hard way

Yesterday, we were experiencing issues on our server while we were doing our Rails upgrade from 3.0.10 to 3.1.x. It took us quite some time and after six hours “fire-fighting”, we brought our server back at the end. There were some desparate moments during the recovery as we had done that quite successfully before on the testing server. Though we are stiil on 3.0.10, we have learnt a big lesson through this experience and we want to share this to you all. Backup is the king here.

We have our server and data automatically backup everyday and before each release. And this time it proves crucial and successfully done too! As a startup, there are some many things going on everyday but let’s not forget what is also very valuable to your business . Have your system administrator review the backup strategy again. If we didn’t have the backup, we will have to do the hard way!

We sincerely would like to take this chance to thank everyone who have visited our sites for the past couple of days and being patient with us. We are learning continually and feel free to drop us a line if you also have your experience to share!
